The headline says “tourists” from visa-waiver countries, but the proposed policy change outlined here applies to your economic development prospects and business visitors too.
Visa Waiver countries impacted include Great Britain, Western Europe, Japan, South Korea, Israel, Australia, 42 countries in all that I would wager are your on your FDI recruiting target lists.
The proposal would require, among other things submission of all business and personal social media and email account information going back 5 years (who even remembers?) as well as detailed information on the names, residences, and phone and email contract information for immediate family members.
It is being covered widely in the international press.
If this concerns you, further information on other required information to be submitted as well as directions on how to submit comments can be found in the Federal Register here:
There is a PDF of the proposal in the sidebar; Section 4 enumerates the “High Value Data Elements”, and directions are provided to submit comments in writing.
Might be worth reaching out to your state and federal representatives as well.
