Creative solutions arise from difficult circumstances and the courage to try something new. When faced with low unemployment constraining both hiring and production, DS Smith chose to lean fully in to what it took to embrace and engage the Spanish speaking population in the potential labor market. Beyond some of the more typical strategies, like bi-lingual advertisement, DS Smith has hired full time interpreters to work through the recruiting process and on to the production floor with great results.
As of August 2024, when CNN picked up this story, it was thought that DS Smith was the only local company that had pursued this initiative, and they were expanding it to other locations across the country. They took the risk and made the investment, they should reap the benefits.
